The 27th Annual Walk Against Violence

The 27th Annual Walk Against Violence is coming up on October 15th at 6:00pm. Cailen Pygott and Danelle Stoddard who work for Dartmouth North through my constituency office have done the organizing of the walk this year, and I am grateful to them.

We will gather at the Boys and Girls Club on Farrell Street for a candle ceremony where anyone can light a candle for someone who has been lost or harmed by violence in our community. It is a chance to remember, and pledge to work for peace. We will have some hot drinks on hand, and we will also be collecting donations for the Jason MacCullough Memorial Scholarship which is given to a Dartmouth High School student each year.

The walk was started to remember community member Jason MacCullough who was killed in 1999 and whose murder has never been solved.

After gathering at the Boys and Girls Club for some short words and the candle ceremony, we will walk to Jason MacCullough park where we will have a few minutes to hear from community leaders and remember those lost to or harmed by violent acts. We will then walk back to the club, but there will be no official happenings at the club when we return, so if it’s convenient, people can walk home directly from the park.

We encourage everyone to wear/bring lights of some kind, and posters for peace and unity are welcome.

Please pass on the word and share the poster with your contacts/students/clients etc. We hope to see you on the 16th!

Sincerely,

Susan, Cailen and Danelle
